Checklist
What Should a Tradie Website Have? The 15-Point Checklist
By Opside Technology · Updated
How do customers contact you?
Make it one tap. Most people looking for a tradie are on their phone, so your number should be visible at the top of every page and tap to call. Back it up with a short quote form for people who'd rather not ring, and say how quickly you reply.
- Tap-to-call phone number at the top of every page
- A short quote form: name, contact, job type, suburb, description
- Your typical response time, such as 'we reply within one working day'
How do you show customers you're trustworthy?
Show the proof people look for before letting a stranger into their home: your licence or registration details, trade association memberships, real photos of your work and team, and genuine reviews. Real photos beat stock images every time.
- Licence or registration details (LBP, EWRB, PGDB as relevant)
- Memberships and guarantees (Master Builders, Master Electricians and so on)
- Photos of real jobs, plus you or your team
- Recent Google reviews shown on the site
- Your business name, NZBN or company details in the footer
How do you make sure the right customers find you?
Be specific about what you do and where. Name each service in its own section, because people search for the job, not the trade. List the suburbs and towns you cover, and make sure your business name, phone and area match your Google Business Profile exactly.
- Each main service named and described separately
- The suburbs and towns you cover
- Business name, phone and area matching your Google Business Profile
- A short 'about' section: who you are, how long you've been doing this
What technical basics does a tradie site need?
It must load fast on a phone, work on every screen size, use HTTPS, and have proper page titles and descriptions so Google understands it. These are invisible to customers until they're missing, and then they cost you jobs and rankings.
- Loads in under about 2.5 seconds on mobile
- Secure (HTTPS) with an SSL certificate
- Proper page titles, descriptions and business structured data
Common questions
Does a tradie website need more than one page?
Not always. A well-built single page can work for a sole trader with one main service. If you offer several distinct services or cover several towns, separate pages rank better. That's the difference between Opside's Launch ($99/month) and Growth ($299/month) plans.
Should I put prices on my tradie website?
'From' prices for common jobs or a callout fee help customers self-qualify and often increase quality enquiries. For custom work, a typical budget range does the same job without locking you in.
